Come to Me

Updated: Dec 12, 2023

(A reflection and interweaving of the readings for the Second Wednesday of Advent, Year B: Isaiah 40:25-31; Psalm 103; Matthew 11:28-30)

O little ones, lift up your eyes on high and see before you the One who created you, the One who for your sake was crucified; seek Him and find Him dwelling in the innermost chamber of your heart. Now, hear what this Lover of your heart has to say to your tired and weary soul:

“Come to me, for I am He, the LORD, the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth and the highest heights of the heavens; my knowledge and wisdom is unsearchable, and no man can fathom the depths of my love. Indeed, the depths of my mercy stretch down and reach into the depths of your misery to pull you out of the darkness and into the light of my face.

Yea, I am He who is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in mercy; I am He who deals with you not according to your sins but according to my infinite mercy, for as the heavens are high above the earth so great is my mercy toward those who fear me, toward those who keep my most true commandments and abide in my most perfect love.

Yea, I am He who pardons all your sins and heals all your ills; I am He who redeems your life from destruction and crowns you with kindness and compassion, sitting you on a throne of my everlasting joy.

Come to me, then, O child of mine, take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and gentle, lowly and humble in heart; my yoke, I promise, is easy and my burden truly is light.

Come to me all you who labor and are heavy laden, I will give you a most fitting home in my heart and there you will find warmth and security, peace and rest for your souls.

Come to me, for although you are exhausted, growing more faint and weary in these darkening days, I do not faint nor do I grow weary and my light neither flickers nor fades.

My heart, being also an ever-burning furnace of charity, always seeks to give more of my love, light and life to you. Yea, I give power to the faint and to him who has no might, I increase his strength.

Come to me, wait for me, hope in me, abide in me and I will renew your strength, you who have fallen by the wayside and sit in despair. I will mount you up in hope and cheerfulness, upon eagles' wings, and with me you will run, nay you will fly, carrying the good news of my love to the ends of the world, without ever growing weary or fainthearted.

Come to me, O you little ones, for it is true that I love you from all eternity and that I never have nor ever will grow weary loving you. May your restless heart find its home in me and there may you truly dwell in peace and security.
